Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (previously known as Diesel & Motor Engineering Company Limited) was founded in 1939. It was founded by four entrepreneurs: Pandithage Don Alexander, Stephen Peiris, Harold Algama and Cyril Algama. Initially business was only in automobile sales and repairs. In 1964 it was converted into a Public Quoted Company by listing at the then Colombo Brokers’ Association. With beginnings as a purely automobile sales and repair concern in 1939, the Company has since grown in size as well as in scope of activities. DIMO has over 1,750 employees as at March 2019.

The Company has a record of 80 years’ experience in the automobile and engineering industry and over the years has made a major contribution towards the development of infrastructure development and road transportation in Sri Lanka. DIMO is probably the oldest general distributor for Mercedes-Benz Vehicles, in the Asian region.
